Medical Transcriptionist
Program Objectives: To prepare students for employment as medical transcriptionists by providing basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, word processing, English, Medicolegal ethics and concepts, and medical transcription practicum. To provide understanding and skills necessary to accurately transcribe medical dictation while applying the principles of professional and ethical conduct. To assist graduates in securing employment. Graduates of this program are prepared for entry-level positions in medical clinics, private physician offices and hospitals

There is no state or national requirement for eligibility or licensure for the Medical Transcription field. A national test is given for the CMT (Certified Medical Transcriptionist), but this test is not an entry-level requirement in the profession.
The approximate amount of time required for completion of the day Medical Transcriptionist program is sixty-four (64) academic weeks and the evening program is eighty (80) academic weeks.
Course Completion dates are subject to attending 20 hours per week days and 16 hours per week nights. Course Completion dates are subject to attending 9 credit hours per term days and 8 credit hours nights.
Academic weeks are defined as actual weeks in attendance excluding holidays, school breaks, and inclement weather days.
